Born in Wimbledon, Ray is a retired postal worker and has actually brought a patient out of a coma! He was playing a request for one patient, which turned out to the favourite song of another patient, who was comatose. Her husband was visiting at the time and played it for her - and upon hearing it she woke up!
Ray enjoys collecting music, and has a huge collection of original editions – including many rare titles – from the 40’s 50’s and 60’s, which he has been building up since 1957. Channel 4 has even called on his extensive collection when they needed 50s footage! He particularly enjoys music from the 50s. ‘Music really had a meaning in those days’ he says, ‘if you don’t believe me, just look at how many of the old 50s tracks are being used in advertising these days!’
You can hear Ray, along with items from his collection, every Saturday from 5pm.
