MUSIC IN HOSPITALS . . . .

Diana Greenman, Chief Executive of Music in Hospitals, was delighted to have the opportunity of being interviewed on Radio Wey with singer/guitarist, Chris Pearson on Monday evening, 7th January.

Music in Hospitals is a charity, which was established in 1948. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of adults and children with all kinds of illness and disability through the joy and therapeutic benefits of professionally performed live music in hospitals, hospices, day care centres, special needs schools, nursing and residential homes.

Music in Hospitals is the leading provider of professionally performed live music across the healthcare spectrum. Last year we organised more than 4,800 concerts throughout the UK.

Each concert is performed by small groups of professional musicians who are carefully selected by audition for their high standard of musicianship, communication skills and breadth of repertoire. These qualities enable them to relate to each member of the audience whatever their age, illness or disability.

We are able to offer a wide range of music from pop to classical, including show music, folk and world music for all age groups.

This year Music in Hospitals celebrates its 60th Anniversary and to mark this milestone we will be holding a Gala Concert at St John’s, Smith Square, London on the 9th September. Three world -renowned soloists will be performing; percussionist, Evelyn Glennie, cellist, Julian Lloyd-Webber and singer, Felicity Lott with the City of London Sinfonia. It promises to be a thrilling evening.

Our first priority is to ensure patients, residents and clients are able to benefit from our special live concerts. To support some 4,800 concerts we must produce an income in the region of £1,000,000 each year, so fundraising is a vital part of our work. We ask healthcare centres to contribute approximately half the cost of the concert. Our standard charge is £106 plus VAT but sometimes, if funding permits, we are able to provide concerts free of charge.
