MINI RUGBY . . . .
The Reeds U7 mini rugby team won the SURREY ‘A’ festival held at Dorking over the weekend. 23 teams took part from all over Surrey. The team, (pictured here) were undefeated in the festival.
Reeds U7s played Richmond in the final. Richmond started off strongly with Reeds having to dig deep to finally draw 5-5. The teams share the trophy however Reeds were awarded the GOLD medals as they had scored the highest number of tries throughout in the tournament.
Reed’s Under 7 Coach, Chris Derham said “The Surrey ‘A’ festival is the biggest tournament of the season and to come away undefeated is fantastic. Our A team has an amazing track record, it has played in 5 festivals this season, winning the last four festivals in a row and reaching the final in the other. We have a very talented group of youngsters at Reeds, not just in the U7s ‘A’ squad but in our B and C teams too. It’s great news for our future.”
The Reeds U8s, who also competed at the same tournament, missed getting through to the final on the toss of a coin. Having drawn their semi final against Cobham, both teams had an equal number of tries so the decision was taken to toss a coin which did not go Reeds way.
Reeds Weybridge Mini Rugby Section has nearly 300 boys and girls, from U5’s to U12’s, turning out each Sunday morning to learn the skills and enjoyment of the great game.
