Mike (James) Atkinson

Mike was originally a member of Hospital Radio Wey back in 1972, before leaving in 1995 to help set up Chertsey-based Care Radio (a community radio station which now broadcasts on the internet as ACE radio). He rejoined us at the beginning of 2006, and is now responsible for coordinating a small team looking after our programme output.

Mike has always been interested in broadcasting, and even had a brief stint with Radio 1 when it started back in the 60s! Mike currently works as a Human Resources consultant and as well as running his own small training company, he is the Chief Executive of Capital Care Ltd. Apart from broadcasting, has also worked for the RAF as an electrician and in his spare time he enjoys playing badminton, and teasing his wonderful five grandchildren’. (Although not at the same time!)

Mike, says ‘I have so many great memories of Hospital Radio Wey. All of my three children were born during my time with the station. Funnily enough, after years of trying unsuccessfully to get my daughters to join Radio Wey, my son joined on his own initiative!’ Mike’s favourite artist is Frank Sinatra (a firm favourite at Radio Wey), and he also likes pop music from the fifties and sixties as well as smooth jazz.
