On Friday 2nd May at 1 o’clock, live on WEBSTER’S WEEK Jonathan spoke to Barbara and Vick, our two intrepid explorers at the moment they rolled into Cap Ferret on the west coast of France at the end of their epic and successful 1150 mile fund raising journey from Cornwall which started last Sunday.
On Friday 9th May Barbara and Vicki will be the guests on WEBSTER’S WEEK to tell us more about their wonderful experiences and they will be bringing ‘Madge’ along to the studio.
The intrepid explorers are nearing the end of day four and are between Tours and Limoges as they make their way south through France. They report that the weather is grim with heavy rain but ‘Madge’ is performing beautifully and on some roads they achieved up to 65 mph.. They spent some time at Le Mans yesterday and Barbara, a veteran car enthusiast, was delighted to find a 1934 Peugeot with electric windows - astonishing - and very rare. All along the way they are collecting donations for MacMillan cancer fund.
Madge has been behaving well and the team has reached Lac du Guerledan, the largest lake in Brittany, on today’s leg of almost 200 miles. It rained this morning so the hood went up but now it is dry and sunny. Barbara and Vicki got lost en route but soon recovered and although slightly behind time are snatching a very late breakfast (at 2 pm French time).
The 2008 'Cape to Cape' is a six day classic car tour that will take crews over a challenging 1150 mile route from Cape Cornwall to Cap Ferret on the west coast of France. All entrants who participate in the Tour are committed to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, mainly through asking friends, family and business colleagues for sponsorship. The 2007 'Cape to Cape' raised over £70,000. You can support their efforts by going to the MacMillan cancer website and making a donation www.macmillan.org.uk
Benson’s Hairdressers in Shepperton are sponsoring “Madge” and the team, running a raffle and donating prizes. You can call in there to add your support
